About Donnabelle Designs

donnabelle designs jewelry is an exploration of color, form and line by artist Donnabelle Casis. As a professional artist with an MFA in painting, Donnabelle is inspired by her love of color and fascination with organic forms to create jewelry that is vibrant, creative and contemporary.

A graduate of the University of Washington School of Art, Donnabelle is represented by Howard House Contemporary Art in Seattle, WA. Her artwork has been included in group exhibitions in museums, galleries, and in several public and private collections throughout the United States.

Donnabelle began working with glass enamel in 2004, a year after the birth of her twin boys. She sought a creative outlet that was immediate and rewarding while balancing her family and art career. After taking a few enameling classes during a family summer vacation in the Adirondacks, Donnabelle was immediately drawn to the alchemic process of transforming powder into glass and working in layers, something she found similar to her painting practice. Honing her skills in working with the medium, she launched donnabelle designs and began selling to clients and boutiques.

Donnabelle creates several new collections a year, each with limited production. Once a collection sells out, its designs are retired, making donnabelle designs jewelry imminently collectible. Her new line is informed by one of her son’s own zeal for botany; papel picado - the Philippine art of papercutting; the timeless beauty and graphic qualities of ancient Egyptian art and design; and her affinity for creating compelling color interactions.

Each donnabelle designs piece is handcrafted in Donnabelle's Western Massachusetts studio. She works with vitreous enamel on copper and kiln-fires each piece at 1500ºF for multiple firings. Due to the nature of enameling, variations in pattern and sifting can be found which lend a unique quality to each original design. The reverse of all forms are counter-enameled with a solid contrasting color, creating jewelry that can be worn two ways.
